Physical Activities for Kids in Bangkok

Whether the intention is to keep them active, healthy or temporarily occupied while you're on a quest for the best bargain, Bangkok has a wide range of fun-filled physical activities for your little ones to enjoy.

Despite the great variety of choices, choosing what to do and where to go is actually very simple, depending on what your children's interests are. The unfailing fun that activities in and around water offer is always a big hit. Most hotels have swimming pools, as do many serviced apartments and Fitness Centres. And then, there are Public Pools. Alternatively, slide down on Leo Land's waterslide located on the rooftop of Central City Bang-Na shopping mall, or visit Bangkok's very own man-made 'sea' for full-blown water fun. Siam Park comes highly recommended for young aqua-holics and thrill-seekers alike. Combining a water park and a theme park in one, it features a 400-metre Super Spiral waterslide, a giant sea pool with 'waves', as well as Thailand's first and only vertical loop roller-coaster. If your kids are fans of fast cars, why not let them indulge? Of course, we don't mean on Bangkok streets, but in the safety of the PTT Speed Way Karting Stadium.

For less adventurous youngsters, countless of activities are also on offer in Bangkok's public parks, notably Lumpini Park, where free aerobic dance sessions and paddle boats for hire are available. The heat, however, may become too much for the kids. Just head to indoor playgrounds then, located in most shopping malls, for some air-conditioned fun and games. Outstanding ones include Jamboree Land at the Emporium Shopping Center, and Yoyo Land at Seacon Square. And while you're at a shopping mall, look for bowling alleys (usually located alongside cinemas).

The Olympic-size rink at Imperial World Samrong provides plenty of room for your children to skate tirelessly all day long. One session lasts around four hours and 45 minutes - a considerable amount of time to round off your shopping mission! Or better yet, join in the fun and stage your own version of Holiday on Ice with your kids. Learn to glide gracefully around the rink or have a go at a spin or even a triple axel!

Another fun way to see Bangkok is by bike. Most biking tours also accommodate children (aged 12 up). Read our biking tour review here.

Restless little boys and girls can learn how to be calm and restful at some Yoga Centres where sessions designed especially for kids are offered. If they still want to move around, why not have them do so with grace and style? Dancing provides a great workout as well as fun at the same time. Have your kids on their toes with ballet lessons or on their heads with hip-hop classes at Dance Schools in Bangkok.
