Damnoen Saduak Floating Market for Backpackers

The Cheapest Way to Visit Bangkok Floating Markets (Half Day)

  • Visiting a floating market during your time in Bangkok is sure to be a highlight of your trip, and Damnoen Saduak floating market is often considered the original and the best. Many of the stunning photos of boats filled with fresh fruits with ladies in straw hats navigating the canals were taken here and you’re guaranteed your own memories and fantastic pictures of this traditional Thai experience. After driving out into the country you approach the market by water, on a long-tail boat that gives you a glimpse of the lives of those who have made their homes on the banks. Damnoen Saduak Floating Market is a great place to grab a late breakfast, with boat owners chopping fruits, flipping fresh coconut pancakes and dishing up rice with meat or vegetables. There are also plenty of stalls to browse in the rustic hangars that line the canals, with handmade products and souvenirs for sale. We recommend taking a slow boat through the canals at a small extra cost which gives a very cool perspective of the floating market, amongst the sellers as they hawk their wares with a shout and a smile.

Damnoen Saduak Floating Market is open every day, but only in the morning. The best time to visit is between 07:00 - 11:00, so this tour is perfectly timed for you to experience the floating market’s at its busiest. After soaking up the atmosphere you head to the Royal Thai Handicraft Center where you can watch artisans create amazing furniture and intricate carvings from teak, and perhaps even purchase a small wooden elephant as a memento of your visit. You’ll be back in Bangkok by early afternoon.
